sometimes its enough to just go home and bask in the presence of swell people.
god bless the bear flag republic.
i just got a nikon e series 50mm 1.8 lens from a pawn shop… its fully manual and my digital nikon doesn’t support through the lens metering for this 30 year old lens so its going to take some practice to get things to work for me. the focal length difference between the 50mm and the 28mm i usually use is pretty different, but it makes portraits look awesome. this is probably the best shot i have taken since i got it yesterday afternoon. pin point focus! i am really excited to see where this lens will take me.
i think that if the lomo lc-a and the yashica t4 could go back in time and have a baby that is somehow a few years older than themselves, the olympus xa would be their time-shifting offspring. i named mine “the stealth bomber”. apparently it was the smallest full frame 35mm rangefinder in 1979. the xa can only go to 800 iso but i shot neopan 1600 in it. developed in gamma-plus, which is apparently now my magic potion for the rest of the semester. it also came in a clean, leather case (with belt loop) that is completely devoid of any logos or branding. Unless you count the imprinted text on the bottom reminding you assertively that this is in fact “top grain genuine cowhide” and it was for damn sure made in the usa. the belt loop makes me feel like the photographic analogue to indiana jones.
i having been playing with panoramas this weekend… click the image to see it larger (this has worked better for me in firefox, not safari).
